The US President happily announced the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, “the world’s No. 1 terrorist leader”, to the US media
President Trump revealed a raid in northern Syria killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Al-Baghdadi was the leader of the Islamic State, known as ISIS> According to President Trump’s televised address to the country, he died at the end of a dead-end tunnel. He said, “Last night the United States brought the world’s No. 1 terrorist leader to justice.” Al-Baghdadi was being chased by US Special Operations Commandos in Northwest Syria.
The raid occurred late on Saturday. Al-Baghdadi was tracked down by the CIA and tracked by the US Special Operations into a tunnel. According to President Trump, his suicide vest killed him and three of his kids. The POTUS said, “He died like a dog. He died like a coward. The world is now a much safer place. He was a sick and depraved man, and now he’s gone.”
This is the most important terrorist death since Osama bin Laden’s death in 2011. President Trump called it the “dangerous and daring night-time raid”, saying the US forces accomplished what they had to “in grand style”. He said the forces also seized “highly sensitive information” during the two hour raid.
The President said that the ISIS leader spent his “last moments in utter fear, in total panic and dread, terrified of the American forces bearing down on him.” His body was “mutilated by the blast” but immediately identified through an onsite DNA test.
President Trump also revealed that he and Vice President Mike Pence watched some of the mission from the White House Situation Room. He said he had witnessed Al-Baghdadi was “whimpering and crying and screaming all the way.”
The raid that killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi occurred some three weeks after President Trump’s withdrawal from northern Syria.
